The Internet needed another source of rants and uninvited uninformed opinions.
Last Saturday I took a trip to the New York Renaissance Faire. I know I am easily amused but I enjoyed the irony of the statement "We have power! Open this Weekend!" displayed on their web site. Yep, the Blackout sucked but at least it only lasted 6 hours for me.
In other news... One of my least favorite "features" of modern web browsers is exploitable for Internet Explorer users: In MSBlast's wake, a DirectX threat. Thats right kids... you too can get exploited by a background MIDI file!
I spent a good three plus hours today helping out patching the student labs at work against MSBlast and related fun. Dealing with Windows workstations, which thankfully isn't normally part of my job, reminds me of how damn useful ssh and real package managers like rpm are. I could have patched a couple dozen UNIX or Linux machines in the time it took me to do 6 windows machines without using any scripting at all. (Of course I didn't counting the time spent under computer desks disabling Centurian Guard... a product idea that is foreign to UNIX and Macintosh workstation administrators for very good reasons...)
Speaking of suckage a paralegal maintains a great blog discussing the actual legal facts behind the whole SCO vs Linux thing called GrokLaw. She doesn't pretend to be a lawyer but does a great job of ripping apart legal documents, doing research into the latest SCO sewage releases, etc. At this point she probably knows more about the SCO vs IBM case then SCO does. Highly recommended.
